Baby Y98!

WOW! What and EXCITING few months! With over 10,000 entries and 150,000 votes, Mr. Kale came out on top! Not only is 17month old Kale stinking ADORABLE, he’s hilarious to boot! We had SUCH a fun time with him during our shoot. He was such a trooper. The idea of getting a 17m old to sit long enough on a piece of paper looking at the camera is NOT an easy task. We had everyone in there helping Kale to laugh, make funny faces, and just have fun.  Jen and Kevin from the morning show surpassed all of us on our tricks. Acting like monkeys, throwing balls on my head to get him to laugh, pulling out games on the iphone to keep him sitting (at least for a brief second) and bribing him with food. I think we all were ready for a nap after almost 2 hours of full blown Zumba!  As was Kale   But, it was so beautiful out we decided to venture outside and take a few shots as well. Kale was SO tired but SO amazing. He lasted a few minutes more so we could have a bit of variety in our shots. Then the shoot ended with the most BEAUTIFUL great dane! Gosh he was beautiful.  Kale decided he needed to share his snacks and I am so glad he did. Cutest shot EVER! Love.   Ok enough blabbing….

Here is how our day went. Not only is Kale cute but man he has a personality!

For real we were playing baseball and “bonk”! Kept him sitting! Excited I grabbed that shot with the ball when it his his head!

I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful mama and her new beautiful baby not too long ago. Her maternity session has been featured all over the place, and after seeing her, you should not be surprised why!  I am so lucky to call this a job. I get to hang out with awesome families, hold, snuggle and take pictures of itty bitty babies. When I am asked to photograph from belly to baby, I am just totally thrilled.  It’s so special to develop the relationships I am blessed to be able to do.  I am Chesterfield newborn photographer. I also photograph young babies, children, seniors and families! Our family recently relocated here from Chicago and we are totally loving it! I will of course miss all my clients in Chicago, as most of them I photographed on from birth.  However, everyone is SO super nice here in St. Louis and the weather is MUCH better Also, I am back home to my Cardinals roots!!!

Lots of people ask me when is the best time to schedule your maternity session. I like to photograph moms around the start of the 8th month of pregnancy, unless she is having twins, in which case I say 7!   Newborns are photographed on day 5-10 after birth! It’s when they are all squishy and bendy and OH SO TINY!

Now beware…most of my moms don’t look like this right after birth I told her we can be just PRETEND friends haha

Love her. Love her tiny baby. Love.

So, my first Dream Action feature is all about Rachael Myers Photography. She is not only a photographer whom I can call a friend, she is an EXTREMELY talented lifestyle photographer as well as leader in the community. Check out this lifestyle feature she was just in! For real love this girl. ALSO…she is the designer behind Simple Sally Designs, a beautiful new logo design line she recently created.  I love how Rachael uses the actions JUST ENOUGH to finalize her image. They are not over done, but used perfectly.  Enjoy.

Rachael Myers is a lifestyle photographer for families with babies and children in Peoria, IL. She has been working with little ones for the past three years. Rachael is a momma, wife & the owner of Simple Sally (a great resource for photographers!) Rachael loves photography (of course!), graphic design, pizza and ice cream – but her favorite thing of all is time spent with her family.   This shoot is all about her perfect little love bug using both the Dream in Color and Black and White sets.  Some of them have both sets run with the BW layer turned off.

What Rachael has to say about her use of the Dream Actions:

“For my color photos – I like to hand edit in lightroom & then move them into Photoshop. Then I can enhance the image to give it an extra “something”.  My go-to action for color is ironically in the Black & White set – it’s Reverie. I turn the black & white layer off, and reduce the opacity to about 30%. That gives the image some moody matte. From there I like to go into the color set & use “dreamy”  at about 15%. It’s just enough to make it light & soft. When I want to use black & white from Emily’s actions I go to Muse. I turn off the “drama” & “lighten” to give it the look I’m after. From there I flatten & if needed I will add some depth & grain! These actions are really perfect! The two sets together are the only way to go. Best of both worlds ”

Well, the time has come to book up for summer! I will be making a long trip  up to Chicago where I will do LOTS of shoots. There will be NO travel fees for this trip. You can still book me out of town and I will make the trip up from St. Louis, but there is a small travel fee for shoots outside of the large group time.  I have decided to also do some mini shoots while I am there in my favorite location, one that I will miss DEARLY in St. Louis … the beach!   If you are interested in taking my Click, Compose and Create classes, (which I have to say totally rock ), I will be making another trip up as well in the late fall when the weather starts to get yucky.   Stay tuned on FB for that announcement as well.

Oh my heavens I LOVE twins! I photographed these little beauties when they were born, and had their 6 month shoot just before I moved to St. Louis!  Everyone asks, “how in the world to do you pose twins?” VERY carefully haha! At least for the newborn portion. Patience is HUGE when it comes to photographing newborn twins.  You need to pose one, have the other one ready to go and have a plan. I always tell parents,  quality over quantity with newborns! We take time to do the shoots right, instead of having a LOT of photos. Twins even more so. To get those perfect posed shots, you really have to let go of the number, and go for the quality! That is what we did and these girls rocked it.

I could NOT believe how BIG they had gotten in 1/2 a year! And WOW they  are BEAUTIFUL! Dad better watch out for these two!

On a side note, twin newborns are so much fun to watch grow up. I am so lucky I have booked so many newborn twins set to arrive this summer!  I am not sure what’s in the water, but I am sure glad of whatever it is! (So long as I don’t drink it haha).
