award winning newborn photographer in st. louis

offering studio and lifestyle newborn photography sessions

Emily photographs newborn babies both in her studio in Chesterfield, MO as well as in your home.

Emily is known for her clean and timeless imagery, as well as capturing true connection that will provide you with heirlooms to treasure forever

in-studio newborn sessions

Newborn studio sessions can take place up to 3 weeks for a “natural” shoot, or up to 2 weeks for a posed session. Many clients like to mix a few poses with natural moments. Some families who love the lifestyle look but do not feel their homes have enough light, will opt for a natural newborn session in the studio.

Emily has a closet full of anything you can imagine. There is a queen-size bed as well as a wall of windows with sheers to create beautiful images. All immediate family members are included in these sessions.

Emily has extensive training and practice with posing babies. She will never place your baby into an unsafe position.  Please note that the type of posing Emily does is classic, for instance, she does not use large crocheted outfits, turn your baby into a “turtle”, use large tutus, massive flower headbands etc.  Emily will make sure your images are clean, classic, beautiful and timeless.  Emily takes a limited amount of posed newborn sessions per month and shoots them on M-Th. Newborn studio sessions last about 2-3 hours.

lifestyle newborn sessions

Lifestyle newborn sessions are the perfect way to capture your new baby in your home in a relaxed way. This is a great way to get images in your new nursery, with pets, etc. During these sessions, we will capture your family in a way that you can look back on and remember how you really were. Siblings do great in this situation as well, allowing us to capture authentic moments. No posing (either of the baby or family) is done in-home, just gentle and relaxed direction, which allows for natural connection and interaction to occur. All family members are included.

Lifestyle sessions can be booked as your full newborn session, or Emily offers them as add-on sessions to full studio sessions.  Emily prefers newborn lifestyle sessions to occur 2-4 weeks after birth. Unlike posed sessions, a little bit of an older newborn is perfect for a lifestyle session, as they tend to have a better ability to connect with eye contact past the 2 week mark.

what to look for in a newborn photographer

When looking for a newborn photographer, (make sure to start early, I tend to book months in advance) there are few things to think about.

  • What style of photography do you like?
  • Do you like the posed images, or more natural?
  • How long has your photographer been photographing newborns?
  • Are you drawn to timeless images or more trendy styles?
  • Are siblings and family members included?
  • Are pets included?

Each photographer is different. Some of us have been around a long time and have a ton of experience (huge for safety reasons if you are looking for a posed session), some are portfolio building. There is a photographer out there for everyone!

Prior to Emily being a photographer, she was a speech language pathologist, and worked with babies in the NICU. You can trust your baby is in good hands.  Emily has had extensive training and practice in posing babies. She will never put your baby into a position that will compromise the safety of your baby. Typically during the posed sessions, a handful of gentle poses occur with the remainder of the session being a more natural session.
